I headed to the hospital tonight to bring my cousin a Coke slurpee. She was in labour, and I knew she really wanted one. Took our great big, washable, insulated cup to the Sev, and the headed to R.U.H.
Well… While I was signing in as an after hours guest, guess who arrived? “Little” Craik (no name yet). So I showed up at the room only minutes after he was born. LOL I totally crashed the birth, but I don’t regret it one bit! I do feel bad that Jamie didn’t get to enjoy her slurpee during her labour, but I am oh so glad that I got to be one of the first people to welcome “Little” to the world.
He is strong, healthy, and beautiful… and will never lack for love.
For family and friends of “Little”, I’ve got an entire album posted at facebook already.
Congratulations Mommy and Daddy! Welcome to the most amazing adventure you’ll ever be lucky enough to be a part of.
First off… I’m so glad you all liked my first attempts at creating my own wordart. Each of them has had over 120 downloads already. That’s awesome! I’m honestly just tickled.
Secondly… It might be a little while before I try another challenge. LMAO Only one entry. But it was super cute. So I’m very happy to offer Michele (mdkscrapper) a code worth three dollars off at Sugar Pie Scraps ESS store. Drop me a line at td at tobi-dawne dot com to claim your prize. And thanks so much for participating.
Thirdly… I decided that this week I’d share one of my layouts. It’s one I did this week, and I really am happy with how it turned out. I have to admit, I was actually really disappointed that it didn’t win Layout of the Day at Enchanted Studio Scraps. I totally thought it was LOTD worthy. LMAO But it was chosen as a Gallery Standout by Kat’s Creations Creative Team. That’s three out of the last four weeks that one of my LOs has been featured on her blog. So… here’s my LO (layout).
Okay, lots of photos in this post (hence the title).
There have been a few days where I promised to upload but hadn’t yet, so here are photos for those days plus today.
Not much to say here. Wee girlie had a treat, and is just super cute.
Here is the wee girlie doing the “I got a new hat” happy dance.
Sandy, Rosalie, and Paul – She absolutely LOVES her new hat, and has worn it every single day since it arrived. It is sooo cute, and just looks absolutely adorable on her. Thanks so very much! It’s awesome!
Sandy is an accomplished artisan here in Saskatchewan. If you’d like a hand-felted one of a kind beret for your little one, you can drop her a line at sgcompton at sasktel dot net (obviously remove the spaces and replace the at with @ and the dot with .). Her work is outstanding. The hats are perfect in the rain (nothing gets through them) and are really good to throw on your little one after swimming too. Keeps them warm even with wet hair. Seriously, I can’t rave about Sandy’s work any more than I do. Really, really awesome stuff!
So, yesterday a wonderful astronomical event took place… and once again, we here in Saskatoon, totally missed out. The last several events listed as “not to be missed” have been missed here due to cloud cover. Totally not cool.
Yesterday, for the first time in twenty years, the sun and moon rose and set at the exact same time. This causes an amazing effect which completely lights up the sky, due to the way the light reflects from one, off the other. Well. As I said. Couldn’t see it. Clouds.
So here’s a picture of some horses. Played with it a little in iphoto in an attempt to have it look as if I’d lifted it from an old western. Considering the limited scope of iphoto, I think I came close.
And here are a couple shots of the sunset. That did manage to pierce the cloud cover for about 90 seconds. Enough time to focus in the opposite direction to snap a couple shots.
Shaun, I know you were really looking forward to seeing pictures of the aforementioned astronomical event. Sorry.
Damon was sick today… which means I didn’t have time for much beyond the essentials. So, here’s a quick night sky shot for you. Camera’s interpret the dark in such interesting ways. From time to time I enjoy pointing off into space and seeing what happens. Tonight’s photograph is completely unedited… not cropped, colour adjusted, or altered in any way. It’s just the sky, outside my home, as the camera sees it.
Night all. Be good to one another.
There are some people who doubt it’s existence… but I believe today’s photo of the day will prove that it is alive and well here in the heart of the prairies. Prairie machismo is that force that fuels everything that some men do. The force that compels them to be “bigger than”, “stronger than”, “tougher than” the next guy. It is the force that inspires jokes about rednecks on the prairie. It goes beyond testosterone driven displays well into the range of blatant stupidity. It is the crushing of beer cans on the forehead while pouring gasoline on the bbq and wearing nothing but green and white body paint stupidity… It is, as this man has done, wearing shorts and a tank top when it is five degrees celcius out.
So kudos oh great and mighty prairie man. For proving, once again, that “real” men are all about scaring little children by displaying way too much flesh.
Seriously though? Come on guy… cover up. It’s cold out there. You don’t look tough, you look silly. Everyone else is out with long pants, jackets, hats, and mittens…. dressing like it’s still Summer is just plain goofy.
Today I went fabric shopping. I love fabric shopping. All those colours and textures. I just walk through the store and touch everything. It fills me. I really do love it.
Fabric stores are all about possibilities and potential. Beautiful things to touch to see… beautiful things that are just waiting to become. Unfinished things just waiting for the right person to come along. A good fabric store just makes me feel happy (but a badly set-up one fills me with anxiety). I love my fabric store.
Today I bought some really cool denim (you’ll see it in the photo below). It’s for a ring sling I’ll be making for my cousin Jamie. She’s due in a few weeks. Some slings are hard to shop for because people want such specific things, which aren’t always easy to find – and in some cases just aren’t available locally… and I don’t buy a fabric I can’t first touch. Jamie was fun to shop for though. She wanted a casual fabric, preferably patterned, preferably with blue, green, or brown in it. And initially she said no orange, but then took that back, and said orange would be okay too. I couldn’t believe my luck… to find denim with a fun floral pattern in BLUE, GREEN, AND BROWN.
Jamie, hope you love it!
I also bought some new tulle. Tutus and ring slings are probably my two favourite things to sew – and I now have fabric for both. LOL Jamie gets her sling and the wee girlie gets a new tutu. Joy!
On another note… only had one entry for my Scraptastic Saturday challenge. So she wins the gift certificate for Sugar Pie Scraps store at ESS. Congrats!
Okay, I’m totally cheating today.
I was laying here, and it suddenly occurred to me that I didn’t take a picture. Not a one… not even with my camera phone. It’s dark in here, because I’m laying in bed after having put the wee girlie to sleep, so it’s not like I can take a picture in here. So… I’m cheating.
Here’s a picture my friend Emilie took today.
You can visit Emilie at her website (where there are lots of cute Chihuahua pictures) @ http://www.hileigh.homestead.com
So yeah. LOL Busy day.
Got an equally busy one planned for tomorrow – but I’ll make sure to take a picture or two along the way.
Lily-Ann is growing up before my eyes. These three years have passed by in a flash. Today she sewed her first quilt (no backing on it, but that’s another lesson for another time). She cut it, pieced it together, fed it into the sewing machine, and controlled the foot peddle. That blows my mind a little bit.
As anyone who knows Lily well can attest to, she can be a handful. Smart, strong willed, and determined to do things her own way… (wonder where she gets THAT from). But she also has shining moments that leave me feeling so very proud. She really is amazing, and I’m so very lucky.
We were leaving co-op the other day, and a gentleman held the door open for the wee girlie and I. She looked up at him and said “Thank you sir”. His jaw dropped, and I smiled as I thanked him too. I then squeezed Lily-Ann’s hand and said “Thank you for your manners. It makes me so happy when you are so nice.”
And yes. I know. I owe a photograph from yesterday. They are all still on my camera. Need to clear some space on the computer. LMAO But promise to have it for you soon.
And yes. I know. I also owe you a Scraptastic Saturday post. Its coming too. I promise.
So… this post is for yesterday AND today. I ended up in bed, in a lot of pain, all yesterday afternoon, evening, and night… so just couldn’t muster up the strength to post. Thankfully today has been MUCH better. That said, today you get a two-fer.
I am a proud Mommy, so have to share the wee girlie’s first bulletin board at school. Her pre-k class did a project on apples… so here’s a quick shot of the bulletin board outside her classroom.
A couple days now, I’ve taken Thora (our Lurcher) with me for the six block walk to pick up the wee girlie from school. Lily-Ann absolutely LOVES it! And, of course, so does Thora.
So here’s a picture of my two baby girls… only one of whom has reached the double digits. Thankfully.
We love Tuesdays.
Because Tuesday is Library day! And we LOVE going to the Library.
This week Lily-Ann asked to go to the “big Library”… which is what we call the three level, main, downtown branch. Because, well… it’s pretty darn big. LOL
Today the wee girlie made a friend. I ended up picking out her books, her CD, and her Daddy and I picked out her movies. She was too busy reading, and playing. Which is just fine by me. It was nice just peeking around corners watching the two girls play.
