Well, we seem to have another day where by the time I sit down to blog, I’m just too darn brain-beat to do much. LOL So I hope you’ll forgive me if I just share a little news.
I spent most of yesterday and today finishing up and packaging my first scrapbooking kit to be released at Polka Dot Plum. Yep. I’m on my way to becoming a designer. I don’t have a launch date to share just yet, but it won’t be long. And I’ll be launching with two, possibly three digital scrapbook kits. So it’s a little nerdy, I can’t help it. I’m excited about it.
I started in the design apprentice program at the Plum back in the Spring. It took longer than initially planned to get through it as I ended up having to go on hiatus when business got a little crazy. So this has been something I’ve been looking forward to for almost a year, which is why I hope you’ll forgive the dorky excitement.
Want a peek? Here’s what one of the kits looks like (and the preview doesn’t include all of the scrapbook elements):
Click on the image to see it full size, and to get a good feel for the very real textures. So yeah! Keep an eye on my blog and at the Plum: http://www.polkadotplum.com/ I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know when I’ve launched, and I promise to have a goodie or special of some kind just for those of you who read my blog.
In honor of Sugar Pie Scraps Designaversary (coming up mid-month), Crystal is hosting a “choose the colours” contest on her blog. All you have to do is hop on over there, and pick the swatch you like best. To thank you for voting, she’ll give you a discount coupon for the kit she’ll create using the winning colour palate. And even better? One lucky person will receive the kit for free. She’s got some lovely swatches posted, so it’s not an easy choice… but hey! Everyone loves a chance at free stuff. So get on over there!
I am sooo not ready for Saturday to be over. Can I get a do-over? LOL But without erasing any of the stuff I managed to accomplish today? I just need another Saturday.
I’m too tired to post much, but I did want to share a layout I did this week. It’s very different from anything I’ve done before. And there are some things I’d change if I were to start again. But it was a neat learning experience, and (generally) I think it turned out pretty cool.
I’d planned on turning this particular photo of the girlie into a fairy at some point… and this just seemed like the time to try something new. Sooo… what do you think? LOL Should I stick with my usual type of layouts, or should I do more like this?
On the evening of the 13th, as I was helping the wee girlie get ready for bed, she transformed from my beautiful amazing little girl into the great CORNHOLIO. Demanding TP for her bunghole, she proceeded to jump up and down on the bed and hurl pillows hither and yon. Bouncing maniacally she repeated her demand for TP. “Are you threatening me, Bungholio?”
Okay. LOL So it wasn’t all that. But she did do her best Beavis impersonation, amid peels of laughter. “I am the great Cornholio. I need TP for my bunghole.” It was great. She does enjoy King of the Hill, but I imagine it will be a few years till she’s actually ready for Beavis and Butthead in their full glory. We’ll save THAT particular Mike Judd classic for when she’s in grade school (at least). LOL
Scrapbooking kit Monster Make Believe by Jacqui’s Scraps. Available at Polka Dot Plum.
Well, it’s official. I’m addicted to designing. Today I’ve got another freebie for you. A mini-kit I call “Oh Dear”.
My first kit mainly contained commercial use (CU) items from other designers that I’d coloured or retooled… just to kinda test the waters. But with Oh Dear, I built several elements from scratch. Now that the design bug has bit, I’ll likely be looking for a shop soon, where I can bring you kits on a regular basis. So stay tuned for that. But until then, here’s “Oh Dear”. Just click to download. And enjoy!
If you are up for a challenge, check out the Plum. I’ve got a mini-kit challenge posted there, featuring Oh Dear. You only have until Tuesday at midnight to play though, so you better hurry. The challenge is posted here: http://www.polkadotplum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4915
Enjoy a freebie or two? Then you’ll want to check out Sugar Pie Scrap’s blog come the ninth. There’ll be an four seasons blog train rolling through that day in honour of Enchanted Studio Scraps birthday. Crystals kit is really lovely, so you won’t want to miss it. Just head on over to http://sugarpiescrapping.blogspot.com/ to check it out and download it. She’s also released a new kit this week called A Fresh Start that is really something. The embossed papers in it are absolutely fabulous.
That’s it today. Take care everyone, and HAPPY SCRAPPIN’!
Wanna know where I found today’s joy? It was in something unexpected, that I’ll admit started out as a chore.
I host scrapbooking challenges at both PDP and ESS, and I normally love creating things for them. But the date kinda snuck up on me, and this afternoon I suddenly realized that I needed to have a wordart piece finished, uploaded, a layout built around it, and all of it posted by tomorrow. ACK! That’s more stress than fun. And seeing how my focus is “personal joy”, stress is rather contrary to that in most every possible way.
With this stress hanging over my head I began looking through my photographs hoping for some inspiration to strike. I find it nearly impossible to create anything worthwhile when it’s forced. Muse is essential for me in the creative process.
Stumbling upon a series of images I took at the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo back in September, everything started rolling. And soon I had created, not only a wordart, but an ENTIRE mini-kit. Even better? This mini-kit (unlike my first kit) is almost completely created using original elements. Items created from scratch, by me. Only a button and a bow were designed using CU products from other designers. Not too shabby for my second kit.
I have to admit, I’m super excited about this one. I really do think it’s beautiful.
With my first kit I had a lot of trepidation, and I was concerned about whether anyone would like it, download it, or use it. This time? I KNOW it’s a good kit. I’m very proud of it… and it all centers around my photography. This kit was created with heart. I can’t wait until tomorrow when I can share it with the world. Until then? We have to make due with one of the photos that inspired the kit.
Happy New Year!!!
To celebrate our entry into the new decade I’m giving away a digi-scrapping kit. It’s my first try at designing, and appropriately, I’ve called the kit “First Try”. Click on the preview image below to download it.
The kit, “First Try”, includes:
- six (6) papers
- three (3) flowers
- two (2) buttons
- two (2) bows
- two (2) scalloped circles
- two (2) word arts (only one shown)
- one (1) tag
- three (3) bling swirls
No commercial use please, personal use only. No scrap for hire.
If you do download, and then use my kit, I’d love to see what you create with it. Please stop by here and post a link to your layout(s) in the comments section.
Lots of scraptastic stuff today.
First off, Sugar Pie Scraps has got an amazing new kit out at Polka Dot Plum. It’s called Snow, Sledding & Sweets. I absolutely love it. When I first saw it, I knew I liked it… but it wasn’t until I actually started working with it that I fell in love with it. This kit really is a dream to work with. It’s got a ton of flexibility, and works with both the sillier layouts and the more serious ones. It really is fabulous. And even better? You have a chance to WIN it. Hop on over to http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/happy-place-31/win-snow-sledding-sweets-263926/ to enter the free draw.
Now, here’s the new LO (layout). And you guessed it… I used the kit above. LOL
Oh right… I also promised a freebie, didn’t I. I didn’t forget.
The image is linked, so just click on it to download.
And if you feel like playing along, why not stop by the plum and share what you’ve created using my word art. The url for the challenge is http://www.polkadotplum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4773 All I ask, is that when giving credit please list it as “a scraptastic design by TD”.
That’s it from me today. I’m off to a party with some really great folks we know through my husbands work. Take care, and be safe.
Got a Christmas freebie for you all today. :)
