My challenge for March has been posted, and I thought I’d take a minute to write a bit of a blog post about it too. For those of you who aren’t aware, my challenge this year is a journal challenge. I’ve wanted to create a scrapbook about me for some time now. But generally when I sit down to work on a layout I let my photographs speak for themselves, and it’s almost always about the kid. So it really is a challenge for me to sit down and write a little something about ME. It’s important though, and so I’m writing about me FOR Lily-Ann.
Each month I’ll provide a journal prompt, so if you’d like to take the challenge along with me, you’ll have a book of your own finished after the year is over. This month I scrapped a page about how the girl and I share a love of My Little Ponies.
Feel like checking out the challenge? They’re all listed at: http://td365.wordpress.com/the-challenge-2012/ And each and every month during 2012 there will be another prompt added to the list.
Well, we seem to have another day where by the time I sit down to blog, I’m just too darn brain-beat to do much. LOL So I hope you’ll forgive me if I just share a little news.
I spent most of yesterday and today finishing up and packaging my first scrapbooking kit to be released at Polka Dot Plum. Yep. I’m on my way to becoming a designer. I don’t have a launch date to share just yet, but it won’t be long. And I’ll be launching with two, possibly three digital scrapbook kits. So it’s a little nerdy, I can’t help it. I’m excited about it.
I started in the design apprentice program at the Plum back in the Spring. It took longer than initially planned to get through it as I ended up having to go on hiatus when business got a little crazy. So this has been something I’ve been looking forward to for almost a year, which is why I hope you’ll forgive the dorky excitement.
Want a peek? Here’s what one of the kits looks like (and the preview doesn’t include all of the scrapbook elements):
Click on the image to see it full size, and to get a good feel for the very real textures. So yeah! Keep an eye on my blog and at the Plum: http://www.polkadotplum.com/ I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know when I’ve launched, and I promise to have a goodie or special of some kind just for those of you who read my blog.
Sooo…. since taking my workload into Apple’s latest version of Aperture, I’ve become a total lover of presets. I’ve created two of my own, and have a couple dozen others as well. It’s rare that I don’t do any further tweeking after applying a preset – but they do go a fair distance in cutting down my editing workload.
Haven’t checked out Aperture 3 yet? Apple is offering a free one month trial – so it’s a good time to look into it. It’s a great tool for amateur photophiles too, so don’t think that just because you aren’t a professional it’s not worth investing in a good processing tool. Learning how to properly edit your photographs can turn a good capture into a great one. And a good photo editing program is a MUST HAVE for anyone who’s involved in scrapbooking. It’s the ideal way to provide those special touches that can really punch your work up a notch (or even two or three). So check it out: http://www.apple.com/ca/aperture/
Seriously, this is one program that should make it into your bag of tricks.
Now… since I’ve been toying with presets I have to ask… Each photo shoot I edit seems to inspire a new one. So it won’t be long until I have enough of them to launch my own preset collection. Would ya’ll be interested in the TD Photography preset collection?
Early this week I created what is my new favourite layout. I’m really proud of this one. It features a photograph that you’ve seen on this blog before… but that had a regrettable bit of negative space (specifically a garbage bin and a shovel). Extracting the wee girlie, the snow, and the snowflakes (and duplicating the snow so that it appears on both sides) made for a much more pleasing image where nothing competes for your attention. It is the simplest layout I’ve created, but I do think it is the most beautiful as well.
This LO (short for layout) has been awarded LOTD (layout of the day) at Enchanted Studio Scraps and is now up for LOTW (layout of the week). Wish me luck. Voting is this weekend.
I used the Magically Pink kit by Sugar Pie Scraps. It’s a wonderful kit that was just released last week. It’s available for sale through ESS. I only used two papers, and two elements (star and wordart) from it… but I have to admit that I had a hard time limiting myself. Lots of great stuff in the kit.
For a special Halloween treat, head on over to ESS and visit the blog. Every day leading up to the 31st they are giving away part of a huge mega-kit. All you have to do is visit the blog, and click the image to download… try to get there every day, and you’ll get the entire kit for free.

Today I just thought I’d share a new layout with you all. The kit I used is called Built-in Playmate and is a collaboration between Kat’s Creations and another designer. As a member of Kat’s Creative Team, I had early access to the kit so got to play with it before it was released.
Just thought I’d share a few really awesome deals I stumbled across this week.
If you’ve ever thought of trying your hand at Digiscrapping, now is definitely the time. Totally Twisted Scraps is holding a HUGE sale in honor of the designers birthday. This was one deal I couldn’t pass up, I’m downloading all the files as I’m writing up this post. LOL And no, I’m not getting anything in exchange for sharing, nor was I asked to share. I just absolutely love all the kits that TTS has created and wanted to make sure that no-one missed out on this amazing deal. And when I say it’s an amazing deal, I really mean it’s an amazing deal. Her entire catalogue is worth over $190, but you can by EVERYTHING, every single kit, for one price… $10. So yeah. I’d say it’s a good time to try out a new hobby.
Click on the image below to head to her store.
Today is the first day in over a week that I’ve actually had time that I could be devoting to doing up a scrapbook layout… but I’m just not feeling it. LOL So I’ll just share some more great scraptastic stuff I found.
Sugar Pie Scraps has a contest going on over at Enchanted Studio Scraps. Just browse her store there, and add your favourite kit to your wishlist. She’ll randomly choose someone to get their favourite kit for free… and there is no better deal than free. LOL
The SPS store is located here: http://enchantedstudioscraps.com/xcart/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=90
The last deal I’d like to share is for a mega kit that’s also available at ESS. Four different designers collaborated on this kit, and all proceeds are being donated to the Susan B. Korman Foundation. It is onsale for only $7.00, which is 53% off. The kit is really lovely, and while the theme is Breast Cancer Awareness, it’s a very versatile kit. One you won’t regret adding to your scrapping library.
You’ll find the kit here: http://www.enchantedstudioscraps.com/xcart/product.php?productid=3301&cat=320&page=1
So that’s it for this Scraptastic Saturday.
Be good to one another, and have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!
Sorry everyone. I’ve been an absentee blogger lately. I have been taking a daily photograph, but life simply got in the way of my posting them. I’ve been absolutely run off my feet the last while, but I am hoping everything is going to settle back down into our regular routine now. Of course, those could end up becoming famous last words – though I hope not. LOL
So, it’s Scraptastic Saturday. That being the case, I’ve got a couple things to share.
As you likely read earlier in the week, “Little” was born! YAY! Well, “Little” now has a name: Finn. And it suits him perfectly. So here’s a layout I did a little earlier in the week, when Finn was only a couple days old, featuring photos from when he was only minutes old.
For this layout I used a kit by Sugar Pie Scraps called “My Boy”. It is available at the Digital Scrap Cafe, here’s a direct link to the kit: http://digitalscrapcafe.com/cafe/product.php?productid=18459&cat=0&page=1
In other scraptastic news, I am now running the Definition Challenge over at Enchanted Studio Scraps. The whole month of October, everything has been done to reflect a spooky Halloween theme – which I just love. This is SOOO my favourite time of year. With that in mind, I decided to use the word “creepy” for this months challenge. Hope you’ll decide to play along.
You can find the challenge rules, and download the wordart at: http://enchantedstudioscraps.com/forums/showthread.php?p=113448
Well, that’s it for today. Welcome to October everyone. Hope it’s a spooktacular month for you. Full of the richness of the season, the warmth of the heart, and the fun of both Thanksgiving and Halloween. Be good to one another!
First off… I’m so glad you all liked my first attempts at creating my own wordart. Each of them has had over 120 downloads already. That’s awesome! I’m honestly just tickled.
Secondly… It might be a little while before I try another challenge. LMAO Only one entry. But it was super cute. So I’m very happy to offer Michele (mdkscrapper) a code worth three dollars off at Sugar Pie Scraps ESS store. Drop me a line at td at tobi-dawne dot com to claim your prize. And thanks so much for participating.
Thirdly… I decided that this week I’d share one of my layouts. It’s one I did this week, and I really am happy with how it turned out. I have to admit, I was actually really disappointed that it didn’t win Layout of the Day at Enchanted Studio Scraps. I totally thought it was LOTD worthy. LMAO But it was chosen as a Gallery Standout by Kat’s Creations Creative Team. That’s three out of the last four weeks that one of my LOs has been featured on her blog. So… here’s my LO (layout).
