Well, we seem to have another day where by the time I sit down to blog, I’m just too darn brain-beat to do much. LOL So I hope you’ll forgive me if I just share a little news.
I spent most of yesterday and today finishing up and packaging my first scrapbooking kit to be released at Polka Dot Plum. Yep. I’m on my way to becoming a designer. I don’t have a launch date to share just yet, but it won’t be long. And I’ll be launching with two, possibly three digital scrapbook kits. So it’s a little nerdy, I can’t help it. I’m excited about it.
I started in the design apprentice program at the Plum back in the Spring. It took longer than initially planned to get through it as I ended up having to go on hiatus when business got a little crazy. So this has been something I’ve been looking forward to for almost a year, which is why I hope you’ll forgive the dorky excitement.
Want a peek? Here’s what one of the kits looks like (and the preview doesn’t include all of the scrapbook elements):
Click on the image to see it full size, and to get a good feel for the very real textures. So yeah! Keep an eye on my blog and at the Plum: http://www.polkadotplum.com/ I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know when I’ve launched, and I promise to have a goodie or special of some kind just for those of you who read my blog.
Starting this month I’ll be hosting a challenge at the Plum… Okay, yes, I know. I host challenges there every month as part of my duties as a member of their Creative Team. But this challenge is something new and different. For the next year, I’ll be hosting a monthly challenge that is all about journaling your journey.
I’ve wanted to scrap about myself for quite some time, but honestly? I just never do it. I really would like to create something that is about who I am, and what’s important to me… something I can eventually give Lily-Ann. Sure, she’ll have all my writing (yes, there’s a lot of it) but I want something that is uniquely personal. And I know, in spite of the fact that this is something I really want to do, I know I’m likely to just keep putting it off.
Hosting this challenge is going to be the perfect way to ensure I actually take up the challenge myself. So each month I’ll come up with a topic, and maybe a word art, template, photo mat, or some other goody to go along with it… and we’ll all create something special. Come the end of the year, each of us will have twelve layouts all about who we are and whats important to us. It should be pretty cool.
So hop on over to the Plum and join me in the challenge forum here: http://www.polkadotplum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=219 Should be an interesting ride!
Well… looks like the holiday season has come and gone.
First we bid a goodbye to Yule. Then it was so long Christmas Eve. Followed by a fare thee well to Christmas. A “don’t care where ya go, but you can’t stay here” to Boxing Day. Then today it was our family feast of leftovers… See ya next year!
It was a gooder, full of fond memories (and some crummy breaks too – gotta love a holiday car accident). The holiday season of 2011 will be generally looked back upon with joy. And here’s a little scrapbooking layout sharing a wee bit of our Christmas morning:
Pictures, beginning at the top left, are of: Riki, Jewles and the kid, Ron, Wilson and kid kid, my Dad and Lily-Ann, Lily and Marie, my Mom and her grandgal, and finally Steven and Lil’. Not pictured but also present (get it? present?) were myself and Damon. Not present, but loved none the less, my brothers Aaron and Earl.

Okay, so I’m back to scrapbooking. My first LO (layout for non-scrappers) went together super easily and quickly… and considering it was the first one I’d done since WAY back in the Spring, I was actually pleasantly surprised by it’s ease. This second LO is another story. BUT I think I may know what the problem is.
I hate the template.
I figured I’d used a template for this one, just to help speed it along as I didn’t really have much inspiration prior to starting it. But after sitting down with it on THREE separate occasions now, it’s just wrong. The spaces where I clustered, ignoring the template, look great. So I really think I just need to trash the few hours worth of work I’ve done so far, keeping only what I have in those small spots, and work from there. Honestly? I think if I do that, it will come together quickly.
I didn’t realize I hated the template before starting. I saw a couple LOs that others had done using it, and liked what they did with it… but it’s just not me. It’s too… ohhh…. I don’t know… too square. LMAO I’m all about free flowing and following your scrappin’ whims. And this template is just too PLOP there-ya-go.
I should have just started by looking through the kit I picked and seeing what inspired me… but I tried to take the easy road, and, well… it made the whole thing a lot more difficult. Lesson learned.
I was off playing around at the Plum when I realized I should actually be on WordPress writing tonight’s blog post. LOL Oooops.
So here I am.
Honestly? I think I’m just so excited about the backlog of photography edits almost being through that I’ve been thinking about getting back to my scrapbooking. I’m almost through my training to be a designer (I was almost through back in March, but had to put it all on hold when things got crazy busy and I’ve been on a leave of absence ever since) and hope to open my store in the new year. But right now? right now I just want to do a layout. LOL
I’ve got a couple of LOs (that’s short for layouts for all you non-scrapbooking folk) that I need to have finished shortly. One in the next couple of days, and the other about a week later. Nothing like having a looming deadline when you’re finally able to get back at it.
So, yeah… scrapbooking on the brain. Can’t help it. The idea of having time to do something for ME??? It’s been months and months since I’ve had that luxury, and well? I’m close to happy tears over the idea.
The stress is finally lifting. I can get back to working how I ENJOY working. None of this groupon-induced stress. No more 3 and 4 photo shoots a day, and a backlog of 80 shoots needing editing. It feels so nice to have things return to NORMAL. Three shoots a week, and time to edit those shoots within that same week. No backlog. No stress. Taking it easy and enjoying my work and all the blessings that come with it. Yay me!
A new scrapbooking achievement for me to share.
I finished my first kit that will be available, not as a freebie, but for sale. Sure, it’s not available anywhere YET. But it will be. I promise. Just keep watching the blog, details will follow.
I’m super excited about this one. It took almost three weeks to create. It involved several stock photography shoots, lots of extraction work in photoshop, on top of the regular work that’s involved in designing. It contains EIGHTEEN (18) completely original elements that are unique to this kit, and 45 total elements. So add that to the 18 papers, and you’ve got a big versatile kit. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Today I just thought I’d share a new layout with you all. The kit I used is called Built-in Playmate and is a collaboration between Kat’s Creations and another designer. As a member of Kat’s Creative Team, I had early access to the kit so got to play with it before it was released.
Just thought I’d share a few really awesome deals I stumbled across this week.
If you’ve ever thought of trying your hand at Digiscrapping, now is definitely the time. Totally Twisted Scraps is holding a HUGE sale in honor of the designers birthday. This was one deal I couldn’t pass up, I’m downloading all the files as I’m writing up this post. LOL And no, I’m not getting anything in exchange for sharing, nor was I asked to share. I just absolutely love all the kits that TTS has created and wanted to make sure that no-one missed out on this amazing deal. And when I say it’s an amazing deal, I really mean it’s an amazing deal. Her entire catalogue is worth over $190, but you can by EVERYTHING, every single kit, for one price… $10. So yeah. I’d say it’s a good time to try out a new hobby.

Today is the first day in over a week that I’ve actually had time that I could be devoting to doing up a scrapbook layout… but I’m just not feeling it. LOL So I’ll just share some more great scraptastic stuff I found.
Sugar Pie Scraps has a contest going on over at Enchanted Studio Scraps. Just browse her store there, and add your favourite kit to your wishlist. She’ll randomly choose someone to get their favourite kit for free… and there is no better deal than free. LOL
The SPS store is located here: http://enchantedstudioscraps.com/xcart/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=90
The last deal I’d like to share is for a mega kit that’s also available at ESS. Four different designers collaborated on this kit, and all proceeds are being donated to the Susan B. Korman Foundation. It is onsale for only $7.00, which is 53% off. The kit is really lovely, and while the theme is Breast Cancer Awareness, it’s a very versatile kit. One you won’t regret adding to your scrapping library.
You’ll find the kit here: http://www.enchantedstudioscraps.com/xcart/product.php?productid=3301&cat=320&page=1
So that’s it for this Scraptastic Saturday.
Be good to one another, and have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!
Sorry everyone. I’ve been an absentee blogger lately. I have been taking a daily photograph, but life simply got in the way of my posting them. I’ve been absolutely run off my feet the last while, but I am hoping everything is going to settle back down into our regular routine now. Of course, those could end up becoming famous last words – though I hope not. LOL
So, it’s Scraptastic Saturday. That being the case, I’ve got a couple things to share.
As you likely read earlier in the week, “Little” was born! YAY! Well, “Little” now has a name: Finn. And it suits him perfectly. So here’s a layout I did a little earlier in the week, when Finn was only a couple days old, featuring photos from when he was only minutes old.
For this layout I used a kit by Sugar Pie Scraps called “My Boy”. It is available at the Digital Scrap Cafe, here’s a direct link to the kit: http://digitalscrapcafe.com/cafe/product.php?productid=18459&cat=0&page=1
In other scraptastic news, I am now running the Definition Challenge over at Enchanted Studio Scraps. The whole month of October, everything has been done to reflect a spooky Halloween theme – which I just love. This is SOOO my favourite time of year. With that in mind, I decided to use the word “creepy” for this months challenge. Hope you’ll decide to play along.
You can find the challenge rules, and download the wordart at: http://enchantedstudioscraps.com/forums/showthread.php?p=113448
Well, that’s it for today. Welcome to October everyone. Hope it’s a spooktacular month for you. Full of the richness of the season, the warmth of the heart, and the fun of both Thanksgiving and Halloween. Be good to one another!
First off… I’m so glad you all liked my first attempts at creating my own wordart. Each of them has had over 120 downloads already. That’s awesome! I’m honestly just tickled.
Secondly… It might be a little while before I try another challenge. LMAO Only one entry. But it was super cute. So I’m very happy to offer Michele (mdkscrapper) a code worth three dollars off at Sugar Pie Scraps ESS store. Drop me a line at td at tobi-dawne dot com to claim your prize. And thanks so much for participating.
Thirdly… I decided that this week I’d share one of my layouts. It’s one I did this week, and I really am happy with how it turned out. I have to admit, I was actually really disappointed that it didn’t win Layout of the Day at Enchanted Studio Scraps. I totally thought it was LOTD worthy. LMAO But it was chosen as a Gallery Standout by Kat’s Creations Creative Team. That’s three out of the last four weeks that one of my LOs has been featured on her blog. So… here’s my LO (layout).
