Double Yolk Day

Okay… some days are winners and others…  well…  others are today.  LMAO

Seriously?  It just didn’t pay to get out of bed.

But, I did my best to find something positive…  and come 11:00, I did.  And it made me laugh.  Sometimes when things are just REALLY not going  your way, you can find your joy in the simplest and most ridiculous of places.  And today?  Today I found it in eggs.

For brunch I was making omelets for the wee girlie and I…  I cracked three eggs…  and got FIVE yolks.  I couldn’t help it.  The day had been so brutal that the small joy of finding two eggs with double yolks cracked (yes, egg humour) me up.

My double, double yolks.

And even better than finding double double  yolks, was sharing our broccoli and cheddar omelets together… easily the highlight of my day.  🙂  But, then again, she usually is.

The Yule Tree!

Today we put up our Yule tree. Now… before you say anything, I feel the need to defend our poor little fake tree. LMAO

We live in a house with just over 600 square feet. Within this house live people, dogs, and other sundry animals (cat, parrot, turtle)… That’s a lot of life packed into not a lot of square footage. So. Would I like to have a real tree? You bet your buttocks. Can we make our space work to fit in a real tree? Uhhh… no. LOL

Our little tree is a goofy little thing. It’s half a fake tree that gets hung on the wall. It takes up a depth of about six inches. And takes up no counter space, no dresser space, no table space. It takes up no surface space at all. And for a brief time while it hangs on the wall, the only thing displaced is the calendar that usually hangs there.

So yes… While I would LOVE to have a real tree, I’ve come to love our funny little half tree thing. It works for us. 🙂

Now back to today: We put up our Yule tree. And it was the first Yule tree that the wee girlie decorated on her own. Damon sorted ornaments, I handed them to the girlie, and she placed them all – thoughtfully – where they needed to be.

This years Yule tree is not the most balanced or aesthetic one we’ve had… but I think it’s awesome.

We’ve already had several ornaments fall off, calling to the girl to come carry them back home. I’m choosing to think of it as the fun of the holidays just extending itself out to last as long as possible. Why decorate a tree in an hour when you can spend days doing so? My only hope is that none of the little glass ornaments from my childhood hit the road, as they might not be quite so forgiving. LMAO It’s a good thing there is carpet beneath the half-tree-thing.

So here is my photo for today. I’m calling it “Ode to half-faux-tree-dom”.

Ode to half-faux-tree-dom

Now I’m heading outside to see how the eclipse is coming along. Should just be getting started about now, I figure. 🙂

I may or may not be back on tomorrow with a post/picture for you all. Tomorrow is Yule after all.

Take care of one another, and may the spirit of the season warm your hearts and hearth.

November Rain

It rained in the morning, it rained all night, but for a brief time in the early afternoon the rain paused…  and out came the camera.  Here are a few shots I captured in my front yard – never venturing too far from the door, just in case the rain started pouring down again.

Got a favourite?  I’d love to know which, and why.  🙂

Sleeping Puppy

I’m too tired to post much.  Had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my extended family today, lots of great food and great company.  Here’s a photo  of Marnie (the Chihuahua puppy) crashed out in my Grampa’s arms.  🙂

Welcome to the World, Little!

I headed to the hospital tonight to bring my cousin a Coke slurpee.  She was in labour, and I knew she really wanted one.  Took our great big, washable, insulated cup to the Sev, and the headed to R.U.H.

Well…  While I was signing  in as an after hours guest, guess who arrived?  “Little” Craik (no name yet).  So I showed up at the room only minutes after he was born.  LOL  I totally crashed the birth, but I don’t regret it one bit!  I do feel bad that Jamie didn’t get to enjoy her slurpee during her labour, but I am oh so glad that I got to be one of the first people to welcome “Little” to the world.

He is strong, healthy, and beautiful…  and will never lack for love.  😀

"Little" Craik's little parts.

"Little" Craik's Little Piggies!

For family and friends of “Little”, I’ve got an entire album posted at facebook already.  😀

Congratulations Mommy and Daddy!  Welcome to the most amazing adventure you’ll ever be lucky enough to be a part of.

Photo Loaded!

Okay, lots of photos in this post (hence the title).  😉

There have been a few days where I promised to upload but hadn’t yet, so here are photos for those days plus today.  🙂

Not much to say here.  🙂  Wee girlie had a treat, and is just super cute.

Here is the wee girlie doing the “I got a new hat” happy dance.

Sandy, Rosalie, and Paul – She absolutely LOVES her new hat, and has worn it every single day since it arrived.  It is sooo cute, and just looks absolutely adorable on her.  Thanks so very much!  It’s awesome!

Happy Dance!

Sandy is an accomplished artisan here in Saskatchewan.  If you’d like a hand-felted one of a kind beret for your little one, you can drop her a line at sgcompton at sasktel dot net (obviously remove the spaces and replace the at with @ and the dot with .).  Her work is outstanding.  The hats are perfect in the rain (nothing gets through them) and are really good to throw on your little one after swimming too.  Keeps them warm even with wet hair.  Seriously, I can’t rave about Sandy’s work any more than I do.  Really, really awesome stuff!

So, yesterday a wonderful astronomical event took place…  and once again, we here in Saskatoon, totally missed out.  The last several events listed as “not to be missed” have been missed here due to cloud cover.  Totally not cool.

Yesterday, for the first time in twenty years, the sun and moon rose and set at the exact same time.  This causes an amazing effect which completely lights up the sky, due to the way the light reflects from one, off the other.  Well.  As I said.  Couldn’t see it.  Clouds.

So here’s a picture of some horses.  Played with it a little in iphoto in an attempt to have it look as if I’d lifted it from an old western.  Considering the limited scope of iphoto, I think I came close.  😉

The Not-so-Old West.

And here are a couple shots of the sunset.  That did manage to pierce the cloud cover for about 90 seconds.  Enough time to focus in the opposite direction to snap a couple shots.

The sunset.

Sunset (shot two).

Shaun, I know you were really looking forward to seeing pictures of the aforementioned astronomical event.  Sorry.  😦

Damon was sick today… which means I didn’t have time for much beyond the essentials.  So, here’s a quick night sky shot for you.  Camera’s interpret the dark in such interesting ways.  From time to time I enjoy pointing off into space and seeing what happens.  Tonight’s photograph is completely unedited…  not cropped, colour adjusted, or altered in any way.  It’s just the sky, outside my home, as the camera sees it.  🙂

Night all.  Be good to one another.

At twenty to ten and I sit down at the computer only to realize that I haven’t shot any stills today.  Took some video of the wee girlie… but haven’t done any still photography.  So what’s a girl to do?  Well, this particular girl fires up Photo Booth, turns on the comic book setting, and leans in nice and close.  🙂

SPRING!!!!

Here it is folks… proof that spring has sprung on the Canadian Prairie.  Wow!  Can’t believe we aren’t still buried under snow…  it is still March, right?  We’re usually still partially under snow in MAY!

Yep.  Can you believe it?  Little growing things popping out from under the autumn leaves (don’t know why folks insist on raking them up, they are SOOO good for your yard).

little growing things... tiny green sprouts of something...

SPRING!

Kiss of Frost…

Playing outside in the snow…  the wee girlie with a kiss of frost.  🙂

Lily-Ann has been kissed by an ice fairy. Bits of snow on her lashes and cheek.

A kiss of frost, from an ice faery of course.

Little Pea, Little Hoot, and Little Oink

Three of Lily-Ann’s favorite stories… again, just playing with my depth of field (or DOF).
