I Miss Friday Afternoons!

With Halloween parties, Samhain, and Yule all just around the corner it feels like I’ve got a million projects on the go.  I’ve got four costumes to put together (the girl needs two – one for our group theme, and one for trick or treating and school).  I’m also collaborating with someone on my Yule gift for Damon, and I’m in the planning stages for some holiday crafting.

Autumn has always (at least as far as I can remember) been my favourite time of year, and now that it is officially here I’m starting to feel like myself again – all the holiday crafting and planning definitely helps with that.  The last few weeks had been filled with a lot of anxiety.  This time of year never used to include sending my girl off to school, and I really miss having her around.  Now that we’re getting into a routine again, while I still miss her a ton, at least the stress of transition is over.

I have to admit, I really preferred kid-kid’s pre-k schedule to her kindergarten schedule.  Yeah, okay… so there isn’t a huge difference.  We’re on afternoons still, and Thursday is still early dismissal, but now she goes five days a week instead of four.  You have no idea how much I treasured our Friday afternoons – just the girl and I.

Fridays have been my favourite day of the week for a couple of years now.  Yeah, I like that Friday night is sleepover night and the girl is off at my parents place…  but even more than that?  I loved Friday afternoons.  It was the one day a week when the girl and I would spend a few hours baking or crafting or playing card games.  The mornings are filled with routines, getting ready for the day type of stuff and then getting lunch made.  Friday afternoons were all about the girl and I just doing something fun, for the sake of fun.  I really do miss that.

So I’m glad I’ve got holidays to plan for.  Things to sew.  Things to bake.  Things to create.  Things to make.  It keeps me busy and takes my mind off of Friday afternoons.  Not sure how exactly to fit those afternoons in anywhere else during the week, but I have to try something.  Chances are, if I’m missing them, the girl is too.

Back to School (and then some)

Today I’d intended to write about the girlie heading back to school…  and nothing else.  I mean, honestly.  That’s big enough a topic, isn’t it?  But then, like everything in my life the last few weeks, it just seemed to be one thing after another today.

Ever since Camp fYrefly wrapped up, it really has been one thing after another keeping me from finishing up camp associated work.  It’s a little frustrating.  And today was no different.  Just one more thing added to the heap.  Today I got the news that Larissa is stepping down from the provincial Greens.

I don’t know all the details, but I imagine it is health related.  Larissa and I have many of the same diagnosis, and for her age and maturity level, she has handled them better than I did at the same point in my life.  Today most of my physical issues don’t weigh very heavily on me – but it’s only because of years full of coping experience.  Six or seven years ago, I wasn’t in the same place I am now and I know Larissa must be drained.  Being the leader of a provincial party can take a lot out of a healthy individual, and it can have a brutal effect on someone who’s health isn’t tip top.

The Green Party of Saskatchewan is losing a great leader today.  Larissa’s passion, vigor, and knowledge served us well for these last years.  Her dedication and dreams of a better Saskatchewan inspired many.  Thank you Larissa, for everything.  You will be missed.

The executive will now have to gear up for a special leadership race and election – in addition to gearing up for the provincial election coming in November.  As the President of the party, I can assure you, we will all be working very hard to ensure every member of the party has a chance to voice their concerns, and to have their thoughts heard.  If you are interested in possibly running, do let me know.  I’ll make sure your name is brought forward to the board.

So…  back to school.  LOL  It would have been plenty to attend with today.  But that’s just not how the chips fell.  Here’s the girlie on our walk to school today.  Sling pack on, and ready to go.  And yes!  We totally glittered up and embellished the pack – just how she wanted it.  😉

For all the gender-variant and sexual-minority youth…

For my campers, the Alumflies of Camp fYrefly 2011 (both Saskatoon and Edmonton), and for all the gender-variant and sexual-minority youth heading back to school.  Hold your heads high.  Be proud of the incredible, beautiful people you are.  Shine a light in dark places for all those who have none.  Know you are loved, you are treasured.  Build a community around yourself.  Find safe spaces.  Identify the supports in your school or on your campus, and if there aren’t any, then come find adults like us who will support you in the greater community.  Know that IT GETS BETTER!

Be brave!  Be strong!  Be safe!

Scraptastic Saturday – Back 2 School

First off…  I’m so glad you all liked my first attempts at creating my own wordart.  🙂  Each of them has had over 120 downloads already.  That’s awesome!  I’m honestly just tickled.

Secondly…  It might be a little while before I try another challenge.  LMAO  Only one entry.  But it was super cute.  So I’m very happy to offer Michele (mdkscrapper) a code worth three dollars off at Sugar Pie Scraps ESS store.  Drop me a line at td at tobi-dawne dot com to claim your prize.  🙂  And thanks so much for participating.

Thirdly…  I decided that this week I’d share one of my layouts.  It’s one I did this week, and I really am happy with how it turned out.  I have to admit, I was actually really disappointed that it didn’t win Layout of the Day at Enchanted Studio Scraps. I totally thought it was LOTD worthy.  LMAO  But it was chosen as a Gallery Standout by Kat’s Creations Creative Team.  That’s three out of the last four weeks that one of my LOs has been featured on her blog.  🙂  So…  here’s my LO (layout).
