Blog Archives

Look! It’s a necklace.

I’ve started this blog post a few times now, and on vastly different subjects.  Clearly I’m in no shape to really be writing much of anything tonight – at least not in a cohesive fashion.  So it is what it is.

What do you want to see here on nights like tonight?  Do you mind these rambling “I have nothing to share” shares?  Would you rather I taped my fingers together and just watched reruns of Bones or Frasier?  Or should I pluck some random fb meme from my newsfeed and post that?

I’ve been posting here on an almost daily basis for a few years now…  and while I love that it gives me a chance to wind down at the end of the day, I do wonder if you (my wonderful reader) would be better served by my posting a little less frequently.  After all, not every post is a gem.  I refer you back to the post I made a couple years ago that in it’s whole was an image of my reusable slurpee cup.  LOL  Clearly, not every post is a winner.

So, for my own self serving reasons I continue to post six days a week (unless I’m sick, away, or dead).  But I do wonder if you’d rather see other things when I end up on one of these long-winded, winding, posts about nothing in particular.  😉  Let me know.  🙂  After all, there is a comments section.

And for something completely random, here’s a necklace I made with one of the many charms I commissioned from Nanashi-no:  I now wear it to all my photoshoots.  😀

New Glass = Happy Photog

What makes a Photog happy?  New glass, of course.  😀  And I gots me one of my dream lenses on it’s way.

The worst part of a long distance purchase is definitely the shipping time.  And the way Canada Post has been the last year I’m none too confident in them.  So cross your fingers for me that my new glass (a 80-200 2.8 Nikkor lens) makes it’s way here in a speedy and SAFE manner.

For the non-photogs amongst my readers, this lens is (arguably) one of the best Nikkor lenses ever made.  It’s a mid-range zoom that is capable of capturing action in low light situations.  It’s a heavy piece of glass, but is one of those lenses that will outlive your camera body.  It’s a gooder… and I soooo can’t wait to get shooting with it.  I’ve been lusting after this one for a while.  😀

Wii Time (and a holiday gift wish).

Today I managed to sneak in with the camera phone while the wee girlie and her daddy were playing on the Wii.  Usually as soon as they see the camera it’s all about avoiding being captured.  LMAO

I absolutely love that the two of them can play together on the Wii and have so many options.  Singing games, dancing games, kids games, sports games…  and that so many of them require them to get up and move.  Of course, with the camera phone, there was no chance in heck of me actually capturing a shot of them dancing to “hot potato”.  So I settled for them playing a sit down game.

Playing videa games. ;)

Wii Love to Play!

Now, this photo leads me to my holiday gift wish.  Notice all the blur caused by the laughter?  They laugh, they move, and the moment is gone.  I love my big camera.  As a photographer, I NEED my big camera.  But sometimes (like going on school trips, taking the girlie swimming, or for snapshots like this one) I’d really like one of those pocket sized, point and shoot cameras.  As long as it has a quick shutter speed, and image stabilization I’d be happy…  but add on a bit of water or weather proofing and I’d be THRILLED.  LOL  So, any holiday elves out there?  That’s my holiday gift wish.  😉

Photo Loaded!

Okay, lots of photos in this post (hence the title).  😉

There have been a few days where I promised to upload but hadn’t yet, so here are photos for those days plus today.  🙂

Not much to say here.  🙂  Wee girlie had a treat, and is just super cute.

Here is the wee girlie doing the “I got a new hat” happy dance.

Sandy, Rosalie, and Paul – She absolutely LOVES her new hat, and has worn it every single day since it arrived.  It is sooo cute, and just looks absolutely adorable on her.  Thanks so very much!  It’s awesome!

Happy Dance!

Sandy is an accomplished artisan here in Saskatchewan.  If you’d like a hand-felted one of a kind beret for your little one, you can drop her a line at sgcompton at sasktel dot net (obviously remove the spaces and replace the at with @ and the dot with .).  Her work is outstanding.  The hats are perfect in the rain (nothing gets through them) and are really good to throw on your little one after swimming too.  Keeps them warm even with wet hair.  Seriously, I can’t rave about Sandy’s work any more than I do.  Really, really awesome stuff!

So, yesterday a wonderful astronomical event took place…  and once again, we here in Saskatoon, totally missed out.  The last several events listed as “not to be missed” have been missed here due to cloud cover.  Totally not cool.

Yesterday, for the first time in twenty years, the sun and moon rose and set at the exact same time.  This causes an amazing effect which completely lights up the sky, due to the way the light reflects from one, off the other.  Well.  As I said.  Couldn’t see it.  Clouds.

So here’s a picture of some horses.  Played with it a little in iphoto in an attempt to have it look as if I’d lifted it from an old western.  Considering the limited scope of iphoto, I think I came close.  😉

The Not-so-Old West.

And here are a couple shots of the sunset.  That did manage to pierce the cloud cover for about 90 seconds.  Enough time to focus in the opposite direction to snap a couple shots.

The sunset.

Sunset (shot two).

Shaun, I know you were really looking forward to seeing pictures of the aforementioned astronomical event.  Sorry.  😦

Damon was sick today… which means I didn’t have time for much beyond the essentials.  So, here’s a quick night sky shot for you.  Camera’s interpret the dark in such interesting ways.  From time to time I enjoy pointing off into space and seeing what happens.  Tonight’s photograph is completely unedited…  not cropped, colour adjusted, or altered in any way.  It’s just the sky, outside my home, as the camera sees it.  🙂

Night all.  Be good to one another.

Choose Your Weapon!

I chose my Nikon D70.  Sure it’s outdated, and not as cool as the newer Nikon DSLRs…  but it’s mine.  And unlike some other “weapon”, mine is all about the truth.  😀

So, it’s almost nine, and I haven’t taken a photo for today.  LOL  My solution was to use photobooth, and I grabbed the closest thing to me to capture.  That just happened to be my camera.  This is after I played with it a bit using iPhoto.

Night all!
