Clearly I’m not the only one in the house with Mickey on the brain. The girl made Mickey Mouse pancakes while she was playing on her breakfast app. And while yes, this kind of post would be more appropriate on a “Wordless Wednesday” let’s just call this one a “Tired Tuesday”. 😉
I am SOOO ready for the Holiday break! I don’t know who I was trying to cheer up more when I said to the girl “only three more days of school until the break”.
I’m at school all morning tomorrow, and then I have an School Community Council meeting at lunch. On Thursday we have the Saputo lunch at school. Friday is PJ day. Saturday is Yule. Sunday I have a wedding to photograph. Monday I have a family photo session to do, and some Yummy Rummy egg nog to make. Tuesday is the annual Christmas eve party. Wednesday is Christmas with my siblings and parents. Thursday is boxing day, when the extended family will all gather at my parent’s place. Friday I have a hair cut and a night out with my man. And Saturday I can kick back and do NOTHING with the kid. Maybe. I have a friend in town and we’re either going to have a little mini-high school reunion on Saturday OR Sunday. LOL The point is, on Saturday or Sunday next week I get to kick back and do nothing. LMAO Yay! Oh! I still have one teacher present to make and a gift for one of the Brides. Yikes! Tack those onto the to do list for the next day or two. I do love the holidays, but I am looking forward to a day with NOTHING. Oh! Still about eight presents to wrap too. Gotta get those done. Am I missing anything important? Grocery shopping. Right. Hard to have a merry holiday pig out without food in the house. LOL Anything else?
I’m so glad Yule falls smack in the middle of it all. While it will be a day with lots going on, it’s ALL just for us. And I’m so looking forward to seeing the girl’s reaction to the news that we’re heading back to Disney World in mid-January. 😀
Welcome to the 20th anniversary of Pride week in Saskatoon! Yep. 20 years of Pride. It’s a pretty amazing thing.
I’ve only been attending for five or six years now… maybe seven. But even in that short a time, the leaps and bounds taken have been amazing. I remember it only being a handful of people out, but we are now seeing thousands of people every year – and the number is growing exponentially every year. It really is an amazing thing!
So, here’s a brief run down on a few of my favourite Pride events:
Picnic in the Park (formerly known as Family Day) – Sunday June 10th, 11:00 till 4:00 @ Kinsmen Park. Burgers and hotdogs available for $2, pop for $1. There are always lots of fun games for the kids, as well as face painting. And this year there will also be a softball game for the “grownups”. Bring a blanket, or just hang out on the grass. 🙂
Welcome to the Gaybourhood – Wednesday June 13th, 12:00 till 3:00 on 21st Street West between Ave C and D. Free Burgers and hotdogs. Free live music and performance art. This one is always a lot of fun – and I’ve been there every year since it’s first. Is this three or four now? LOL I can’t remember.
Mosaic Art & Fashion Show – Wednesday June 13th, 7:00 until midnight @ the Albert Community Center, 610 Clarence Ave S. Tickets are $15 at the door. This will actually be the first year I’ve attended this show. I’ve always wanted to, but the timing just never worked out for me before. And even better? I’ll actually be debuting several pieces from my Power of SHe project at the show. So you’ll definitely want to come out for this one. Lots of great art will be available for purchase (including mine).
Pride Parade and Community Fair – Saturday June 16th, 12:00 till 7:00 @ Victoria Park. The parade starts at 1:00 and the entertainment on the free stage will be starting up at about 2:15. Beer gardens, lots of vendors (both food and awesome wares), some fabulous community and non-profit groups will be there with info… It’s always an amazing time. So come on out! As this years Pride theme says, “OUT is IN!”
There are lots more events as well – these are just my personal “must attends”. You can get all the details at http://www.saskatoonpride.ca/. And remember: You don’t have to identify as a member of the acronym community to attend. Allies are HUGELY important, and everyone is welcome!
So, because I’m a little ahead in the alphabet blog challenge, I figure I’m taking today to just blog the way I LOVE to blog… about whatever strikes me as worth sharing. 🙂 And today? Today, that’s how much I love Sundays.
Sundays are our family day. It’s often just the three of us, but sometimes we head out with one of my siblings, and this particular Sunday we met up with my Sister-in-law and her daughter – our only niece. We hit a big children’s consignment sale (where, because it was the last day, a lot of stuff was on for 50% off). We totally scored, getting five paperback chapter books for a total of $1.50! And a few cool new outfits for the kid, as well as a pair of adorable orange PJs. They also had baked goods for sale, so we bought cake pops for all five of us. 😀 Super yummy treat! Red velvet dipped in white chocolate. MMMmmmmm….
Next we hit DQ to pick up some Strawberry Lemonade Chillers – one of my favourite drinks. Frozen lemonade with great big strawberry hunks mixed in? Sooo tasty!
Then it was off to the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo (but we hit the zoo, then the park). LOL Last month we were there almost every weekend, this month we didn’t make it there quite so often… the lion cubs grow at such a fast rate, it’s been crazy watching them these last months. I remember when they first brought their parents to the zoo – their daddy was too young to have a mane, and oh what a glorious one he has now. 😉 We got to watch them grow too (but not from quite so young).
The girl was thrilled that the chickens and roosters are now out and about on the grounds. Of all the wild and amazing animals she can connect with up close and personal at the zoo, one of her favourites to interact with is always the poultry. Though I can’t say I blame her. I love them too. If the city would allow it, we’d have a few hens ourselves – but alas, we aren’t as progressive here in Saskatoon as they are places like Toronto.
I took a short video of the girl checking out the “bock bocks”, along with her cousin (who was far less interested):
After the zoo we hit the playground for a half hour or so. We then said bu bye to Tabs and Eliana before running to the co-op for some bbq worthy fare… which Damon grilled up while the girl tore around the yard.
We were thrilled to find Damon had uploaded a copy of the royal wedding to our hard drive, so the girl and I watched it twice in a row before bed. Oh! You didn’t know there was a royal wedding recently? Well jeepers, where have you been dahling? It was the wedding of the century – Princess Cadence and Shining Armor! And yes, it was on My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic. It was a two parter that aired partly on my birthday. We don’t watch TV on TV, we wait until we can stream it, download it, borrow it, or buy it… so I’m thrilled we didn’t have to wait too terribly long for this one. LOL The girl and I love a pony-fix. 😉
As the second viewing came to an end, it was time for PJs and chapters. And now my baby is fast asleep beside me. The perfect way to end a lovely family day. I really am a lucky mommy. 🙂
And now, as we stand on the precipice of the most interesting leg of the A to Z April Blog Challenge, I have one thing to say: HELP!
LOL So yeah… I could definitely use some title suggestions for U V W X Y Z. I’ve got a couple ideas, but they’re looking… well… more creative than I’d like. If you’ve got something that might work, please let me know. From here on out I can use all the suggestions I can get. 😉
Night everyone! Hope your Sundays were as lovely as mine was.
Sundays are our family day, so it’s unusual to find us somewhere with more than just the three of us. But we ended up stopping in at my parents for about a half an hour. Here’s a picture of one of my younger sisters, Marie (yes, the Marie in Lily-Ann Marie). 🙂 Doing puzzles… and even better? Doing a My Little Pony puzzle. I’ve said it before, and I’m sure Marie would back me up, sometimes joy is simple.
Yesterday was the official kick off to PRIDE week here in Saskatoon. It began at 6:30 with a flag raising at city hall, followed by the opening of an art show at Lydia’s. Today was family day at Kinsmen Park. Lots of stuff going on all week (will include a schedule of events below the picture for today). If you see me out and about, don’t hesitate to yell “Hey! Tobi-Dawne!”. 😀
It was nice to see Trae and Jaden out today, even though we didn’t get to visit for long. Boy oh boy has that boy grown. LOL I can’t believe how big he has gotten over the last few months. They were the only folks we recognized, however Lily-Ann was recognized by someone… and they figured if she was Lily-Ann, then I MUST be Tobi-Dawne.
So, here is the wee girlie – with her freshly painted up face.
