The Disney Dining Plan

The Disney Dining Plan, get it, use it!  I love it!  Seriously.

Having the quick service dining plan made our lives so much easier.  We didn’t have to carry cash, or watch prices.  It was great!  And the amount of food you get with this plan is crazy!  In addition to your main course and side dishes you get dessert with every meal.  Not into sweets?  Get grapes, apples, or a mixed fruit dish.  These are super handy to take with you both in your room and at the parks.

The quick service plan includes two quick service meals and a snack daily.  And I’ll admit, before getting to Walt Disney World I was worried about whether it would be enough.  The kid and I tend to be grazers, and like to eat throughout the day.  I was concerned about the dining plan meeting our needs – but it did, with a bunch left over at the end.  We’d always pick up some fruit or other portable snack item as our dessert, so we always had something healthy to munch on whenever the urge struck.

I’m so glad Karla (our travel agent) recommended the dining plan.  It really did make things so much easier…  and we always had a ton of food, smoothies, and great snacks whenever we needed them.  If we make it back (we certainly hope to, and soon) we’ll definitely get the dining plan again.

Home Sweet Home!

I tried to be a good blogger while in Disney World…  I honestly did.  But clearly I failed.  LOL  We were all so exhausted by the time we’d be back at the resort at the end of the day that we’d just crash.  And even today (we arrived home at about 9:30 last night) any time I sat down or reclined I’d start falling asleep.

Most people, when they hear the word “vacation”, think of a relaxing time away.  Lounging on a beach or by a pool, letting life float by, soaking it all in…  This was definitely not that kind of vacation.  This was a set the alarm for 6:00 so you can be at the park de jour for 8:00 or 9:00, go go go all day long, get back to the room between 10:00 and 12:00 at night, get ready for bed so you can go to sleep and do it again the next day kinda vacation.  And as sore and exhausted as we all are, it was SOOOO worth it!

I promise that over the next while I’ll make sure to share lots of details, as well as a few “love it” or “lump it” tips on attractions too.  And half way through we devised our own way of hitting the parks in a way that helped keep things easier, more organized, and thus easier on our bodies and brains.  I’ll share our system as well.  Now though?  Now I’m ready for bed!  I have a feeling we’re in for a week of early bedtimes around here as our bodies begin to recoup after our Disney holiday.  😀

The plane ride and Epcot!

Another long exhausting day… But this one completely wonderful. We’re all sore, and the girls are both asleep, no doubt dreaming about all our adventures.

For the January challenge today I had to take a photo of what’s in our fridge. So I did, yummy resort food and drinks:

And now for something a lot more fun. Here are a few iPhone shots from yesterday and today… Just some little highlights from our trip this far:

Preparing for Yule!

The girl, her face all filled with light and wonder, as we prepare to decorate the tree.

Filled with Wonder!

I figure it’s about time that I shared a few pictures from December first, when we decorated our Yule tree.  It’s our first year with a big (six foot) tree.  I’ve posted before about our little half-a-tree that we normally hang on the wall.  Well, in our new house we actually have room for a regular sized tree – so when Grampa offered us his (he was switching to a table top sized one) we gratefully accepted!

All wrapped up!

We really did love our little half-tree-thing…  but this?  Watching the girl’s face light up, getting to pick out and buy new ornaments, as well as hanging some that Grampa and Gramma Joan gifted us?  It was pretty amazing.  Lily-Ann had the most wonderful time and it did my heart some good to be a part of it all.

After it was all decorated, I put out the bags for her Advent Calendar, and she dug through them looking for bag number one…  thus beginning a wonderful new Yule tradition in our wonderful new home.

Advent, Day One!

With that, here’s wishing you all a Joy-filled Yule!  One packed full with wonderment and delight.  Take time to be childlike!

I’m going AWOL! (and I’ve got a new nephew)

If we took a holiday, just one day out of life, it would be (it would be) it would be so nice.

Leave it to Madonna.  Yep, a holiday would be nice…  so I’m taking one.  No, I’m not going far.  Just a two hour drive.  But there’s no internet – so I’ll be forced to actually leave work behind.  Six days, just for me, kid-kid, my sister Bug, and some of the dogs.  Damon will join us for one night at the start, but he needs to head back for work.  We were hoping he’d be able to join us too, but he’s understaffed just now, so can’t get away.

Before I disappear though (and I may try to check in briefly from time to time using my iPhone) I wanted to take a quick minute to welcome Leandro to the family.  My nephew was born at 3:22 this morning, three weeks early (just like his big sister), at exactly seven pounds.  We’re so glad he decided to make his appearance before we disappeared from civilization – and I did MUCH better this time.  I didn’t start crying.  LOL  I may have teared up briefly, but unlike the first time I held his sister the waterworks did not get turned on (thought I did have to work pretty hard to hold them off).  When the kid saw his picture for the first time this morning (before we got to see him in person) she said “I bet he’s going to grow up to be a cute little handsome man”, and I’d be willing to bet she’s right.

Merry Christmas!

Just a quick upload…  I’m sure I’ll have lots of photos to share in the coming days, but whether I’ll get online to upload one a day or not is a big question.  So here’s one from tonight.  At the annual family and friends Christmas Eve party.  Thank you Jamie for snapping this one for me.  It means a lot.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the Wee Girlie and I.

Hope you all have a safe and happy weekend surrounded by your loved ones.  Make merry and a happy ho ho ho to each and every one of you.

Home made, from scratch, egg nog…

I’m sorry everyone. No picture tonight. I had some taken, but the wee girlie isn’t feeling well so I’m trying to take as little time as possible to post.

So for your pleasure I present what is supposed to be a super awesome recipe for home made eggnog. Now. I have made this… did so tonight (before the girlie was feeling sick), but it won’t be ready to drink until tomorrow night, and we won’t be indulging until Christmas Eve. A friend made it with spiced rum even though the recipe calls for light rum, and she loved it. So we too have used spiced rum. It’s a heafty treat in more ways than one, but home made eggnog is just soooo much better than that store bought stuff.

Enjoy!

Be good to one another.

The Yule Tree!

Today we put up our Yule tree. Now… before you say anything, I feel the need to defend our poor little fake tree. LMAO

We live in a house with just over 600 square feet. Within this house live people, dogs, and other sundry animals (cat, parrot, turtle)… That’s a lot of life packed into not a lot of square footage. So. Would I like to have a real tree? You bet your buttocks. Can we make our space work to fit in a real tree? Uhhh… no. LOL

Our little tree is a goofy little thing. It’s half a fake tree that gets hung on the wall. It takes up a depth of about six inches. And takes up no counter space, no dresser space, no table space. It takes up no surface space at all. And for a brief time while it hangs on the wall, the only thing displaced is the calendar that usually hangs there.

So yes… While I would LOVE to have a real tree, I’ve come to love our funny little half tree thing. It works for us. 🙂

Now back to today: We put up our Yule tree. And it was the first Yule tree that the wee girlie decorated on her own. Damon sorted ornaments, I handed them to the girlie, and she placed them all – thoughtfully – where they needed to be.

This years Yule tree is not the most balanced or aesthetic one we’ve had… but I think it’s awesome.

We’ve already had several ornaments fall off, calling to the girl to come carry them back home. I’m choosing to think of it as the fun of the holidays just extending itself out to last as long as possible. Why decorate a tree in an hour when you can spend days doing so? My only hope is that none of the little glass ornaments from my childhood hit the road, as they might not be quite so forgiving. LMAO It’s a good thing there is carpet beneath the half-tree-thing.

So here is my photo for today. I’m calling it “Ode to half-faux-tree-dom”.

Ode to half-faux-tree-dom

Now I’m heading outside to see how the eclipse is coming along. Should just be getting started about now, I figure. 🙂

I may or may not be back on tomorrow with a post/picture for you all. Tomorrow is Yule after all.

Take care of one another, and may the spirit of the season warm your hearts and hearth.

Hmmmm… Really?

...says the consumer driven corporate powerhouse eager to have you spend, spend, spend in the name of whatever you choose to celebrate.

Busy, busy day.

Spent the morning with the wee girlie.  Playing, cuddling, colouring, eating, getting ready for pre-k…  Then the afternoon was devoted to Green Party business, including chairing an executive meeting.  In the evening we picked up my sister Jewles, and headed off to the library.  Following that it was over to my parents for some supper, where we helped my Dad navigate through the maze of uploading media on his Mac and iPod.  Put the wee girlie to sleep.  Then worked on Christmas presents and played on facebook for a wee bit.  Now, laying in bed, girlie beside me, posting on the blog.  Whew.  LMAO

Tomorrow morning will be much the same (and my favourite part of the day because it’s just me and the girl), in the afternoon I’ve got presents to work on as well as some scrapbooking business to attend to.  Then it will be off to my parents place to help decorate the tree.  😀  Sooo looking forward to that.  Because we’ve just got the tiny half tree that hangs on the wall (will share a picture when we put it up) I really do enjoy helping set up my parents tree.  And I’m sure Lily-Ann will too.

Now, I’m going to share a photo of the girlie playing at the library.  Then I’ll be playing a bit of Warstorm on FB.  And nighty night.  LOL  Just me and the dogs awake in the dark (Damon is up on the desktop computer).  😀

Playing at the Library!
