We’ve been thinking, for the last year anyway, that it would be really nice if we could work something out to take the kid to Disney World while she’s still young enough for it to be magical. It’s definitely not MY first choice for a vacation, especially one that would cost THAT much. I’m happiest in some remote location, free of tourists, where it is serene and quiet, and there is a real chance for animal encounters… a photographers holiday. But Lily-Ann is only going to be little for so long, and magic slips away so easily… I figure if there is ANY way we can work something like this out while she is still young enough to be lost within it all, then we simply have to try.
Damon and I have been together for 15 and a half years… and we have never gone on a vacation. Not a real one anyway. Not even a honeymoon. We’ve gone places to visit family, or gone camping overnight… but that’s it. So this will be our first trip too. It’s kind of an intimidating idea.
There are just so many things that we really need the money for, it makes it hard to think about spending that kind of cash on something that only lasts for a matter of days. But there are only a few times in a persons life where the magic of a place like Disney World really is pure magic… and that would last forever.
I remember going when I was nine (well… to Disney Land though, not Disney World). And already, by that time, I was very conscious about what was cool and what wasn’t. As much as I wanted to go running up to Chip and Dale, I held back. It wouldn’t have been cool for me to seem impressed by these costumed characters. So I didn’t. At nine, the magic was already waning.
All I know, is that if Lily were there right now? If she saw Ariel and Cinderella? They would really be Ariel and Cinderella! They wouldn’t be women in costume, they would be the real princesses, and it would be magic! If we can find a way to do that, how could we possibly consider not giving her that gift?
So… we’re going to look into a Disney vacation. If we can make it work, and we’re going to give it our very best, then we’re going to do it. Because those things that need our attention will always need our attention, but our little girl won’t always be our little girl, and the magic of a place like Disney World won’t last long.
Initially I planned to write about taking my FoodSafety course. I have my certificate from the CHEP leadership training, so now only need my FoodSafe certificate in order to lead a Collective Kitchen group. I took a quick pic of my notebook and some of my notes, and was all set to share. Then I got home.
Well… you couldn’t see it downtown (where I am taking the course) but once I was home, you couldn’t miss it. There was snow. Albeit a thin layer of it, but it is there. Shining white like diamonds in the moonlight. Shimmery, beautiful, new. Chances are it will be gone by noon tomorrow (thankfully), but that first bit of snow really is a pretty sight. A little touch of faery magick in the otherwise dreary and dark late Autumnal world. 🙂
So while I’ll be happy to have it melt away, the new snow still puts a touch of magick into an otherwise drab and boring night.
Early this week I created what is my new favourite layout. I’m really proud of this one. It features a photograph that you’ve seen on this blog before… but that had a regrettable bit of negative space (specifically a garbage bin and a shovel). Extracting the wee girlie, the snow, and the snowflakes (and duplicating the snow so that it appears on both sides) made for a much more pleasing image where nothing competes for your attention. It is the simplest layout I’ve created, but I do think it is the most beautiful as well. 🙂
This LO (short for layout) has been awarded LOTD (layout of the day) at Enchanted Studio Scraps and is now up for LOTW (layout of the week). Wish me luck. Voting is this weekend.
I used the Magically Pink kit by Sugar Pie Scraps. It’s a wonderful kit that was just released last week. It’s available for sale through ESS. I only used two papers, and two elements (star and wordart) from it… but I have to admit that I had a hard time limiting myself. Lots of great stuff in the kit. 🙂
For a special Halloween treat, head on over to ESS and visit the blog. Every day leading up to the 31st they are giving away part of a huge mega-kit. All you have to do is visit the blog, and click the image to download… try to get there every day, and you’ll get the entire kit for free. 🙂

All around us exists a world of magick… and for a small moment I captured it all in my daughters eyes.
To a two and a half year old, everything is new, everything full of wonder. But perhaps more than any other force of nature, freshly falling snow grabs the imagination in an immensely powerful way. Having the wee girlie in my life has reopened the doors to the spectacle of sensation. I’ve always believed in the power that can be found all around us. The miraculous, yet completely tangible, world we live in. But seeing all these things through a little girls eyes only gives rebirth to the sense of awe and wonderment. The truth of being immersed in a perfect moment.
Now… I do regret that she’s standing in front of a garbage pail, but what’s a mom to do. A perfect moment filled with magick happens where it happens. Not much I could do about it. 😉
