Well, we seem to have another day where by the time I sit down to blog, I’m just too darn brain-beat to do much. LOL So I hope you’ll forgive me if I just share a little news. 🙂
I spent most of yesterday and today finishing up and packaging my first scrapbooking kit to be released at Polka Dot Plum. Yep. I’m on my way to becoming a designer. I don’t have a launch date to share just yet, but it won’t be long. And I’ll be launching with two, possibly three digital scrapbook kits. So it’s a little nerdy, I can’t help it. I’m excited about it.
I started in the design apprentice program at the Plum back in the Spring. It took longer than initially planned to get through it as I ended up having to go on hiatus when business got a little crazy. So this has been something I’ve been looking forward to for almost a year, which is why I hope you’ll forgive the dorky excitement.
Want a peek? Here’s what one of the kits looks like (and the preview doesn’t include all of the scrapbook elements):
Click on the image to see it full size, and to get a good feel for the very real textures. So yeah! Keep an eye on my blog and at the Plum: http://www.polkadotplum.com/ I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know when I’ve launched, and I promise to have a goodie or special of some kind just for those of you who read my blog. 🙂
Hmmm… I guess I should blog tonight. LOL
Very honestly my brain is a little pile of mushy barley just now. I’ve been working on a scrapbooking kit that I’ve been in the middle of for months. I figure I should get it finished up. It’s just not inspiring me at the moment, so it’s slow going. But I need to get it finished and get my store launched at the Plum. I’ve got another kit that’s been done and ready for months (finished it before starting this one) but want to make sure I’ve got a few products ready to go for when I open. No fun just having one kit sitting there all by it’s lonesome. 😉
Well, I suppose one thing I could blog about tonight is my dog show schedule. I haven’t decided for sure which shows we’ll be attending, but this is how it’s looking tentatively:
March 2-4, Prince Albert SK
April 13-15, Battleford SK
May 4-6, here at home in Saskatoon
May 19-21, Regina SK
June 1-4, Edmonton AB
July 13-15, Springbank AB
August 3-6, Calgary AB
September 1-3, here at home in Saskatoon
It’s not set in stone yet, but these are the shows we’re considering and will likely be hitting. More may be added as their information becomes available, or changes made as other things come up. But if you’ve got someone you’d like to send out with us (we do have a couple spots that may be available for the right Chihuahua, Havanese, Pomeranian, or other small dog) let us know. 🙂 Hmmm… just realized I haven’t updated my handling site in an embarrassingly long time. Yikes! Well. LOL The link is in the side bar, just the same.
Today was the Breaking the Silence conference. It was great! I only spoke for a little while, but I earned a few laughs, and got the chance to talk with lots of great folks afterwards. I’d share more… but right now? I am exhausted. LOL And I have to get ready for a photo shoot out in the snow tomorrow. Besides, today is supposed to be Scraptastic Saturday. And this post has NOTHING to do with scrapbooking. 😉 To that end, here’s a little poll.
I’m deciding on a name for my scrapbook design company. I’ve narrowed it down to a few options, but could use some outside opinions. So I hope you’ll weigh in. Either with just a vote, or with a comment too.
For those who don’t know… I call the wee girlie “my little strawberry”. So that’s where the name choices come from. 🙂
As I’ve mentioned before, I am in the Designer Apprentice program at PDP. At this stage, we’re all working on our logos. To be honest, I’m struggling a wee bit.
I fell into my design name. Never gave it much thought. It just hit and stuck. Scraptastic Designs by TD. LOL It’s fun, it’s tongue in cheek, it doesn’t take itself too seriously… it’s me. But this design name of mine does not lend itself easily to logo creation.
I’ve created a few different logos now, and Amy (of Polka Dot Plum Designs) has been trying to help me out too. Here’s what we’ve come up with so far:
First is one designed by Amy –
Here’s my first attempt –
Here, Amy took another stab at it –
And so did I, twice –
Each has something I really like… but nothing feels like it’s MINE just yet. The last one is definitely the closest though.
I would absolutely love some thoughts, or creative (and constructive) criticisms. Or heck! If you feel up to it, have a go at it! I’d welcome another pair of eyes and capable hands. 🙂
Okay… so I realize it’s been a little while since I did a scraptastic saturday post. Honestly? My life hasn’t left me much time for hobbies lately. LOL And scrapbooking is definitely a hobby. One I really enjoy, but a hobby just the same. So when life goes crazy, it’s the first thing to go.
Thankfully, I was able to make a little time for it this week. I didn’t get much done… but it did feel nice to be back at it, even for what little time I was.
As many of you know, I’m apprenticing at Polka Dot Plum. Yes, I’ve already designed a few kits… but I am new to designing, and I’m sure I have a lot to learn. And the apprentice program has already been a huge help. I am loving creating papers from scratch. Creating my own textures, creating my own photoshop brushes, and “painting” the digital papers. 🙂 Love it! It’s honestly such a zen activity for me. The rest of the world just disappears and I lose myself within it. Definitely worth finding the time for. Yay me!
A new scrapbooking achievement for me to share. 🙂
I finished my first kit that will be available, not as a freebie, but for sale. Sure, it’s not available anywhere YET. But it will be. I promise. Just keep watching the blog, details will follow.
I’m super excited about this one. It took almost three weeks to create. It involved several stock photography shoots, lots of extraction work in photoshop, on top of the regular work that’s involved in designing. It contains EIGHTEEN (18) completely original elements that are unique to this kit, and 45 total elements. So add that to the 18 papers, and you’ve got a big versatile kit. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
