Dragonflies
Walked into the yard today to have eight or nine dragonflies take flight around me. It was a pretty amazing moment. I quickly (smoothly, and quietly – so as not to alarm them any further) handed my husband my purse and asked him to bring me my camera. Thankfully he grabbed it for me as I knew if I had to run into the house myself for it, and then come back out, that they’d likely all be gone when I returned. Two of them stayed near by, and I was able to shoot them from just inches away. It was pretty awesome… and as much as I would have liked to have shared the moment, I was thankful to be outside by myself with them. Just me, the dragonflies, and my camera. 🙂
I’m still going through an indecisive period with my photography. Normally I can glance through my shots and pick a favourite with ease… but again today. Just couldn’t choose. So here are four that I really liked. Hope you’ll give me your preference. I really do love hearing from all of you.
So… which is your pick for photo of the day?

#2 is my favourite =)
I agree … #2… #1 is good too, but the branch behind the wing is distracting
Shot four. It has the most accurate depth of field, and shows some really nice wing detail.
I LOVE #1. I’ve never seen a dragonfly up that close, and those eyes are amazing!
Thanks everyone. 🙂
There are definitely things I like about each shot, and each puts a different part of the dragonfly in focus. It really was a great experience being out there, so close to them… and I’m thrilled that I was able to capture part of it.
How amazing they are! I saw several flying around in the backyard today–zig zagging around-like crazy!-I watched in awe! At first I thought they were hummingbirds!Until I focused -then knew better! Then found this site!
Great pics! I never saw one land!
Thank you. 🙂 And yes, all three of us adore dragonflies. They really are amazing. And having a whole flock of them take off around you like that really is one of those rare double rainbow type moments.
Oh! I like #3!
Now that I’ve walked away for some time, I have to say, I like three too. 😉
I definitely think #1 or #4. Both have the wings very nicely contrasted & you can see the eyes of the dragon-fly. in #1, it actually seems to be posing for you! lol. very nice pictures, btw. good lighting & coloring.
Thanks for weighing in. Everyone seems to be all over the board on this one. Just proves how subjective the visual arts are. 😉
